Believe! Achieve! Receive! - Mean Green Training

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chris Green, owner of Mean Green Training, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are Mean Green, Houston's leading gym that empowers our community to become the best version of themselves. Our primary focus is to create a culture that inspires individuals to believe, achieve and receive. We have the opportunity to serve high-performing people that want to get better. Our workouts help people build muscle but lose body fat with our unique strength, HiiT, and conditioning program.

Tell us about yourself

I have an athletic background that gave me the opportunity to play collegiate basketball at Houston Baptist University and Langston University. After striving to become a pro basketball player, I never made it past the semi-pro ball. However, the tools I learned within my personal workouts, mentality, consistency, personal development, and just life create what we now call Mean Green Training. In 2008, I trained at a global gym in Houston. After a year of training there, I decided to start my own company that focuses on helping believe, achieve and receive. In June of 2009, I started our brand and haven't looked back.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments would be the belief and trust I have gained in over a decade of the fitness space we have received from our community. It's unbelievable to workout with one of our classes and sees the culture we created has inspired and still empowers countless amount of people. That's truly special.

In 2009, we started with one outdoor Bootcamp at 5:30 am. Now to see how we blossom from 1 location to 2 locations. From 2 to 4, then 4 to 8. At one point, we have over 24 boot camps in the Houston area. Now we have two gyms. Again, it's truly an honor to serve, and people trust us to do it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things as a business owner is balance. One of my main goals when I started Mean Green, was freedom. I always wanted to have the opportunity to stop and smell the roses when the opportunity was given.

Within the last 13 years, I've found my partner and am now married. I have two amazing twin boys. Plus, I'm super close with my family and friends. So it's times when I work so hard because I love what I do and forget to stop and smell the roses.

Therefore, my goal as I continue to find growth is to remember that I desire the freedom to stop and smell the roses. Celebrate life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I would encourage mentorship. I truly believe, for the most part, nothing is new under the sun. You can save a lot of time and money by learning from someone versus your own trial and error.

Second, you will have hard days. It's a part of everyone's journey, but the day you give up is the day your brand ends.

Lastly, as a business owner, you can never stop looking for growth. I believe you must be like a tree. Every day a tree lives, it grows. The day a tree stops growing is the day the tree starts dying.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I love what we do in the fitness space. Not only are we proud of honored people who love our boot camps and gyms, but we have the opportunity to train people anywhere with our digital program. It's called the Dailysweat365. It's high-quality workouts you can watch from your phone or tablet or stream from your TV. There work along with workouts, which means you will never get lost or have to worry about not doing movement right. We also have the "Sweat Bag," which is our fitness product that has everyone you need to work out. It's simple, not bulky, and very effective. You can check this out at Dailysweat365.com.
