Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ryan Schultz, Co-Founder of Medley, located in Portland, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We're an online furniture brand offering eco-friendly furniture. Our customers are anyone looking for comfortable, durable furniture and values safe materials for their home.

Tell us about yourself

My brother Travis and I got started because we saw an opportunity in the furniture space. Instead of renting massive showrooms with huge footprints that ultimately pass their costs onto the customer, we came up with a way to customize furniture online. This allows our customers to order directly from the workshop to their homes and receive furniture that's a perfect fit for their space.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Medley continues to innovate on what goes inside our furniture, using materials that you won't find in most other furniture. The result is not only excellent comfort and durability that outperforms the commonly used materials, but with Medley, you can select options to make an all-natural sofa with no polyurethane foams.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

We're always working to improve how we can communicate our story and how our products are different to our online customers. Our products are truly special, and it's important our customers see the difference.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The most interesting ideas typically start by observing the world around us as it is right now. What bugs you, or what could be improved? What item or process is missing or could be improved from your favorite activities? Tackle problems, not trends.

Where can people find you and your business?
