Lead, Inspire, & Empower Teams of the Future - Melissa Boggs

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in leadership development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melissa Boggs, Principal of Melissa Boggs Speaking & Consulting, located in Northglenn, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help leaders and employees design an intentional employee experience that bridges the cultural and generational gap between them, increasing engagement and inviting joy for all.

This takes the form of keynote speeches, workshop delivery, organizational design, and more. My ideal customers are conferences and small companies that are interested in a more progressive way of working.

Tell us about yourself

I am deeply motivated by my mission to bridge the gap between leaders and employees - because I have been both. It wasn't until I held the title of CEO that I was able to develop the empathy that many coaches and consultants lack without that experience. I knew that I wanted to help leaders find new ways of working that are fulfilling for them AND their teams.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I just hit my one-year anniversary in business, and that felt like a pretty big deal. When I look back at the last year, it has been incredibly fulfilling and impactful. I believe I made the most of it!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, one of the hardest things is continuing to believe in my business when the false security of full-time employment is always waiting in the wings. When things get tough or lean, it's easy to think that working for someone else would be easier - but it's just trading for different struggles.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know who you are. Build a business that reflects your values and your personal mission.
  2. Know what you offer. It's easy to get distracted by other products and services. Know your niche and stay committed to it.
  3. Know your customers. Know what they need and how they operate. Love them.
