What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a short-term rental property management company. My customers are local homeowners in New Orleans.

Tell us about yourself

I am the owner of Minted New Orleans. In 2015, on a search to “find my purpose,” I moved to New Orleans from the San Francisco Bay Area with no solid plan, no job, and a little bit of savings. I was 26 and good at taking chances. While I slept on my couch until I could afford a second bedroom set, I used my (nearly empty) purse to furnish the spare bedroom. I shared my home with travelers from all over the world in what I thought would be just a temporary means to an end. Over many coffees, deep conversations, and a few years, I discovered a newfound love of hosting. I can safely say that I inadvertently found my purpose.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Growing my business to 6 figures without any proper marketing, just word of mouth!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with the territory of being a business owner is having boundaries. Whether that’s with customers, clients, or employees, without them, my business would not thrive.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Three pieces of advice to someone interested in starting a business are:

  1. Know your worth.
  2. Talk about what you do and don’t be afraid to promote yourself - one of the biggest game changers in growing my business was when I could confidently speak about what I do.
  3. Don’t be afraid to say no.
