What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a photographer based out of Seattle, WA. I work with all types of people and events. My passion is photographing couples - engagement sessions, maternity, wedding & elopements, etc. - but I also work with a lot of families as well as solo portrait sessions.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Morgan Belieu, and I grew up here in the PNW area. We are surrounded by so much beauty here; I feel so blessed to be able to photograph my clients in such a wide variety of environments. I enjoy being able to curate photoshoots that really speak to each individual client and capture them in the most authentic and genuine way. I love what I do!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
While I have been published in a few different publications throughout my career, I would say my biggest accomplishment has been the relationships I have been able to form with my clients as well as my community.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest part of being a business owner for me is juggling all aspects of running a business while keeping myself accountable. When there is nobody else telling you what to do, when all the responsibility is solely on you, and when you are a women show with a huge workload, it can be very overwhelming!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top 3 tips I would give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business are:
- Make sure you have at least a year's worth of saving that you can live off of. A new business is not likely to be profitable right off the bat, so make sure you have some financial cushion.
- Don't be afraid to invest in yourself and your business. You have to spend money to make money.
- Figure out what type of customer/client you want to attract. Price yourself accordingly. Market towards your desired clientele. Build a business that you are passionate about and that aligns with your wants and needs.
