Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fine arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Wendy Villa, Founder of Munay Art Studio, located in North Haledon, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a resin artist that mainly focuses on functional items inspired by nature and the ocean in particular. My customers range from people looking for gifts for loved ones to those that find me at local art fairs and love my creations.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been a creative person and have dabbled in many artistic mediums. I found resin during the 2020 pandemic, and I have been exploring different ways to create an ocean and nature-inspired pieces. Once I created enough items in 2020, I began selling them on Facebook, and that led to a few craft fairs. I am motivated by the creativity of other artists and the desire to push myself to think outside the box.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a new business owner, my biggest success has been to be able to acquire enough financial income to continue creating and exploring.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is having to do it all. I am the designer and creator. I also do all the marketing, packaging, shipping, and research.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do what you love.
  2. Trust your instincts on what is right for you.
  3. Don't measure your success against the perceived success of others on social media.
