What's your business, and who are your customers?

Dynamo Consulting, my one-person business based in Istanbul, helps early-stage tech companies in their b2b marketing and international expansion endeavors. I am often engaged as a fractional executive, meaning that, unlike a full-time professional, I invest only some of my time to fill a position. Until, for instance, the company grows enough to employ a full-time executive.

Tell us about yourself

I had side hustles before I started working at Dynamo Consulting. My last 9-to-6 job was paying well, and I was not ready to give up on my professional career until the downsizing decision my former Swiss employer made. Looking back at my decision in 2019, I am pretty happy with where I stand.

I am passionate about what I do as a solo entrepreneur and how my input affects client companies. I run sales and business development teams for them. But I do carry along best practices to younger companies that can grow on talent and structure.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having a fully booked week now and a few potential prospects down the pipeline, flexibility is the biggest win in running my own business. It took quite a while until I was comfortable choosing clients, though.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Making it through the pandemic, maybe? Solopreneurs like me can find it overwhelming when macroeconomics takes it out on your young business and weak revenue stream.

There is no shame in asking for help from loved ones, friends, and colleagues for moral and financial support when your one-person business needs the time to pick up the pace.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I practice and preach go-to-market every day to my fellow entrepreneurs, mentees, and friends. That said, I recommend anyone looking to start with an idea to test it before taking it to market and iterate until they are confident with the product-market fit. And please don’t be afraid of mistakes. There is a bit of learning and opportunity in every error.
