Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aby Fewel, founder of My 3 Meals, located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Have you ever stared blankly into your refrigerator with no clue what to make for dinner? With all of the mixed messaging from diet culture... no wonder people are stuck! I offer one-on-one nutrition counseling so people can become confident in making food choices without resorting to fad dieting.

Tell us about yourself

Ohio native and Chicago transplant. I love cats, pilates, and books. Perhaps my biggest flex is that I've seen Shaquille O'Neal in real life on three separate occasions. Shaq, I know you're reading this, let's hang out. I'm the girl at the party telling you about my Shaq sightings and also telling you to stop your diet. Diet culture is loud and all around, telling us the "shoulds" and "should nots" of eating. As a registered dietitian and intuitive eating pro, I love helping people drown out that noise, so they enjoy food again.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Taking that first step! I've had the idea of starting a private practice in my head for years before building up the confidence to take the first step of actually starting it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Getting your initial clients is tough! Word of mouth takes a while to kick in. Be patient!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you have a good idea that you are excited about, put it into action. You will regret it if you don't give it a go.
  2. Join a community of others in your industry. Other small business owners can be a great resource.
  3. Be yourself online. It's just easier this way.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

My 3 Meals accepts insurance! This is an important part of my practice as people should have affordable access to services that support their health. I help clients navigate their specific insurance policy so they can use those benefits, baby!
