Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrea Saunders, Founder of My Pride Store LLC, located in Goshen, IN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My Pride Store encourages equality, acceptance, and inclusivity by providing a safe space for all LGBTQIA+ members to connect on our social media platforms and through our website, where they can purchase various items to showcase their Pride. We believe Pride is something all members of the Queer community deserve, and that does not end when Pride month is over.

Tell us about yourself

I started My Pride Store in late 2018 when I began my transition (I am a proud Transgender woman). When I first started transitioning, I quickly found out that it can be pretty expensive, and the company I worked for did not cover anything "Trans-Related." I began looking for ways to help offset the ever-rising expenses involved with the transition. Which is when I came up with My Pride Store! It's a way I can give back to our community and still help with my transition. As we continue to grow, our focus has shifted to how we can provide an accepting and inclusive work environment for other members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I feel my biggest accomplishment is in hearing the stories of our customers and friends when they tell us how we have impacted their lives in such a positive way. Seeing someone learn to love their true self is the best reward anyone could ask for.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would say the toughest thing is to stay motivated even when you are stuck doing mundane day-to-day tasks. Communicating with customers and community members makes the mundane worthwhile, though.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Patience: Things don't always go at the pace we'd like.
  2. Dedication: Your hard work will pay off in the end.
  3. Stay true to your vision: Remember the reason you started this journey.
