What's your business, and who are your customers?

MyTechnologists is a premier human resources and talent management firm that specializes in assisting early-stage startups in developing and implementing effective HR and talent strategies. Our ultimate objective is to establish a robust foundation of HR and talent processes and procedures that not only ensure compliance but also provide a clear roadmap for scaling the organization's talent base.

Tell us about yourself

My business partner, Jack Martin, and I, recognizing the potential for a layoff at Dropbox, where we were both employed, seized the opportunity to pursue our shared passion for entrepreneurship. As the COVID-19 pandemic began, we established our company with the initial goal of providing interview coaching to engineers and new graduates. However, as our business evolved, we shifted our focus to assisting startups with their human resources and recruiting needs. Over the past three years, we have successfully partnered with a wide range of startups, helping them to scale their talent from 20 to 200 and beyond. Our primary motivation is the ability to impart our experience and expertise to leadership teams, enabling them to effectively attract and retain top talent in an increasingly volatile market.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Securing a prolonged engagement with a client based in the Bay Area and observing the positive outcomes of our efforts in other organizations is a significant achievement for our company. Additionally, the teams we have assembled possess a similar level of dedication and drive as my business partner, Jack, and I, ensuring the continued growth and success of our business and partnerships.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Maintaining a competitive edge in an ever-evolving market is a key aspect of our business strategy. The rapid emergence of new technologies requires constant learning and adaptability on our part. Our diverse experience working with a range of industries has taught us that a one-size-fits-all approach is not effective and that the ability to stay agile while incorporating technology into our services is crucial. We are excited to announce that in 2023, we have several ambitious go-to-market initiatives planned that we believe will revolutionize the human resources and recruiting industry.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Implementing a phased approach to bring your ideas to fruition is crucial. It is important to begin with a solid foundation and remain adaptable as you progress. Immediate monetary returns may not be realized, but persistence is essential to long-term success. Additionally, it is crucial to communicate effectively and consistently and to lead by example. Emphasize the unique qualities of your business, and be open to feedback and suggestions from your team. Remember, no one will be as invested in the success of your business as you, so it is important to lead with passion and dedication. Flexibility and effective leadership are essential in fostering a positive and productive work environment.
