The Kindness Coach - Naadira Brown

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Naadira Brown, Kindness Coach, Community Builder, and Event Enhancer, located in Staten Island, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My name is Naadira, The Kindness Coach. I help people cool off when they want to pop off by encouraging, presenting, and implementing KIND solutions to everyday problems. This results in more healthy, productive, and satisfying relationships both personally and professionally while simultaneously enhancing the overall health of my client by lowering their stress levels and increasing their quality of life.

Tell us about yourself

I am a proud retired Army Officer. After serving on Active Duty for over 20 years, I have mastered dedication, motivation, and resilience, to say the least. These same three things are what keep me going each day. I will ALWAYS "report for duty" when a KIND(er) home, family, community, and the world is the mission.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly, my biggest accomplishments are the ones not seen but felt. It makes me feel like my purpose is being fulfilled when someone shares a time when they applied something I said or demonstrated and experienced a KIND outcome because of it. If I had to choose a "thing," I'd have to say my biggest accomplishment was the first time I was able to pay rent (and rent in NYC is not cheap) with just three days of income after providing service. Leaving the Army made me realize that I really do not know what my time is worth because you truly are a Soldier 24 hours a day; thus, creating an impact that yielded an income (on my own terms) to pay my rent meant a lot to me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having a business is like having another child as it relates to the nurture, care, dedication, and attention it takes, so time and balance could be a challenge, but I'd like to say that having faith that I am capable of doing this and that God's got it all under control is just as hard (at times.) It gets very tempting just to go get a job instead of staying on the job that God has assigned me, especially when there seems to be more "month" than "money." Then I have to remind myself that God hasn't brought me this far to leave me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Give it a shot. You can't perfect what you don't try, so go for it.
  2. Get a coach/mentor that has achieved what you'd like to achieve, and listen to them.
  3. Chase impact and income will come. Seek to change lives for the better.
  4. Bonus Never forget to keep talking to and listening to God. Keep Him as your compass, and you will ALWAYS be on the right azimuth.
