Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nate Petroski, Owner of NarroWay Homestead LLC., located in Roane County, WV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is natural beard care products, designed by myself from scratch. Making no bogus claims of hair growth, they soften the beard and hydrate the skin underneath. I also have fresh craft roasted coffee, bringing a flavor of good quality beans without "flavors" to the average person so they can see what coffee is actually supposed to be like.

Tell us about yourself

I moved into the woods off the grid with no water and utilities and have a homestead with animals. I'm using solar power and rainwater, building a modern lifestyle that most don't think possible. I needed a way to finance materials to build my infrastructure, so I started a business to allow me to produce my own product designs without having to leave the property.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest achievement is showcasing my life on social media, TikTok, and YouTube "Nate Petroski." This gets the awareness of my products out there and teaches people how it's possible to live off the grid and still be connected to people.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is being driven every day to meet the high goals I've set for myself. You never have "a day off." There is always something that needs to be done to be successful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never be satisfied with where your business is. Always have a vision for improvement.
  2. Realize the commitment running a successful business is, and make sure you keep the drive to make it successful.
  3. Don't be afraid to admit something is a failure, and pivot to a new idea. You are going to make mistakes. Have plan B in mind before you even start.
