Happier and Healthier - Native Palms

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lyssandra Guerra, Founder of Native Palms, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I lead a nutrition consulting and health coaching business that educates and inspires women to use their biorhythms and natural cycles to heal, strengthen, and build resilience during their fertile years into menopause with food and energy medicine. My customers are inspired and curious to live holistically so they can build body wisdom and age beautifully and gracefully.

Tell us about yourself

I was in my mid 20's when I began experiencing digestive pain and hormonal imbalance so bad that I could barely move. I was very confused and scared, trying to understand what was going on in my body. Eventually, my mental and emotional health took a hit as my inability to feel good bled into my self-confidence. During this period, I loved learning how to use food and Eastern medicine techniques to reduce stress and heal my body. I knew I wasn't the alone one experiencing these symptoms, so I dedicated my time to learning, experimenting, and figuring it out for myself and for others on this similar path.

I am motivated each day to continue doing this work because I know what it feels like to feel sick, sad, and inflamed, and I know what it feels like to feel light, AMAZING, and full of vitality, and I want other people to experience that too.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As an introvert, my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is having the strength and courage to actualize my vision in creating a business where I connect with people and they trust me to guide them on their health journeys.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is creating a work/life balance. My business is a huge part of me, I wear many hats, and I am constantly caring for it and for my clients. Keeping strong boundaries has been a challenge that has led me to burnout in the past, so it's a constant practice that I review and implement often.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have patience. Great things come when they are thought out thoroughly and not rushed.
  2. Create a community based on your core values and nurture them.
  3. Get support. Pay others to do the work that you can't do or don't want to. If you can't pay, offer trade or find an intern.
