Enhance the Relationship Between Brain & Body - Neurochangers

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Matthew Sanchez, Owner of Neurochangers, located in Whitby and Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a neurological rehabilitation clinic supporting clients that have an injury or disease affecting their brain or spinal cord. We offer intensive therapy programs utilizing state-of-the-art rehab technologies. We are inspired daily by what the body and brain are capable of. Even with the most significant injuries, there’s the hope of some form of recovery.

Tell us about yourself

I first became interested in the brain working with athletes who suffered a concussion. I was amazed at the power of the brain during the healing process. With the help of an amazing business partner (David), we set out with the goal of providing the most advanced rehab option in all of Canada by bringing in the best of the best within the rehab field. That is regarding both technology and therapists.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We were the first (and still the only) clinic in Ontario to offer robotic gait training for both adults and children since 2015.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I love working with clients in a hands-on way to help them achieve their goals. The most challenging part of being a business owner is that you are also responsible for the day-to-day operation and all the behind-the-scenes stuff that makes sure you can keep your doors open and continue to provide your services. At the end of the day, when you realize that the back end of the business is just as important to help your clients reach their goals, it makes it easier to be motivated to continue to work hard in all aspects of the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your market. You might have the best ideas, but if you don’t know where your customers are, you will struggle.
  2. Work as hard as you can, and then work even harder. This should go without saying, but if you’re not willing to give the venture 100% effort, don’t bother. You owe it to yourself, your family, your staff, and your customers to give your best possible effort.
  3. Be kind. In the rehab industry, we see people who have very obvious and often invisible struggles. Being kind to everyone we meet in the business has served me well throughout our 12 years in business, and kindness is the one thing I know for sure I’ll continue to implement.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Enjoy the ride! It’s never as smooth of a ride as you envision, but it’s definitely worth it.
