Practical Brain Science - NeuroSavvy Leadership

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Keshawn Hughes, Owner of NeuroSavvy Leadership, located in Smyrna, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

NeuroSavvy℠ Leadership is a neuroscience-based leadership coaching and consulting company that empowers today's workforce to end burnout culture, level up, and thrive with ease. Through coaching, workshops, and consulting, individuals and organizations experience intangible gains in morale, leadership efficacy, emotional intelligence, stress relief, and awareness.

We partner with corporate leaders (Executives, HR, ERG, Learning, and Development) and conference planners and provide groundbreaking, neuroscience-based coaching, consulting, and speaking services.

Tell us about yourself

I pivoted from my career in marketing and tech to executive coaching and speaking in 2020 after a layoff. I was shocked by the loss but excited about the opportunity to share leadership principles and healing strategies (I successfully utilized myself) during a time when people in the workforce really needed it. I'm glad I made the right choice!

Since then, I've found the sense of connection and purpose I'd always hoped for through transformational work coaching leaders and sharing practical neuroscience with audiences to end burnout culture, expand inclusive leadership, and inspire wellbeing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment lies in the testimonials and feedback I receive from my clients! It brings me to tears. They've described their work with me as "life-changing" and an "absolute blessing." I recently delivered my keynote presentation on whole-brain leadership to a local fraternal chapter, and they presented me with a beautiful plaque of appreciation. It was such a wonderful moment.

I'm so thankful that I get to do this work and have a positive impact on people's lives. It's the best thing ever.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is identifying the best talent to hire and grow the business. Shared values, sharp skills, and timing are important keys to successful alignment and growth.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Prioritize your health and wellness! As a business owner, it's easy to get caught up in daily tasks and business development, but it all means nothing if you are not healthy enough to deliver and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
  2. Also, cultivate a community of positive, empathetic supporters. We need trusted advocates, who understand our vision, share their perspectives and motivate us to keep going through hard times.
  3. Lastly, celebrate your wins! When we do so in healthy ways, we activate our brains' reward networks and feel good neurochemicals. This helps us build resilience, problem-solve, and overcome obstacles over time.
