What's your business, and who are your customers?

New Earth Estate is a year-round retreat and event center in the heart of Grey County just outside of the village of Markdale, founded in 2016, which conducts soulful programs and events throughout the year. Also, as an event venue, on a 50-acre piece of nature, with a pond, river, forest, and hills, New Earth Estate welcomes entrepreneurs, institutes, or individuals to have their programs, occasion, or special events held at its beautiful outdoor and indoor spaces.

Tell us about yourself

I live in Markdale, Ontario, Canada. Since childhood, I have been inspired by plants, animals, and in short nature, philosophy, and art which always remained my interest along with my profession as a computer software specialist. I started my self-discovery and life purpose journey at a very young age. At the age of 21, I started practicing Heartfulness meditation. I believe that practicing meditation since youth has helped me to get closer to the core of my being and find my true purpose in this lifetime. I have always been fascinated with natural remedies and herbal medicine; this led me to receive training in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2017 and to practice this ancient holistic approach. I enjoy spiritual education and discoveries, as well as poetry, drawing, design, music, nature, gardening, cooking, and baking.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To create a simple, sustainable retreat center for the community of like-minded people who feel or want to feel oneness with all life and care about earth and nature as much as they care about themselves and their well-being. New Earth Estate property is designated as Natural Environment. It is a habitat of many species of wildlife and natural resources. New Earth Estate retreat center is about conscious living, older values, and learning from the great culture of Canadian indigenous, especially our local Ojibway nation. We learned from M'Wikwedong about the beautiful code of ethics, in a nutshell being kind and respectful toward mother earth, respect all forms of life.

Let's find our inner peace by getting away from EMF, putting aside our electronic gadgets, ecotherapy, meditation, having some quiet time, and some face-to-face quality talks instead of online or virtual networking.

We created the village to bring all the good qualities of healthy balanced living to life in one place at this eco-retreat. Tipi village is used for ceremonies, group activities, team building, workshops and is comprised of 7 tipis.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Pursuing completion of the entire project the way you have it in detail in your mind, as well as maintaining the existing phases, making it sustainable, and creating revenue to be able to continue your path toward perfection. While following your dream and being loyal to your own moral values, complying with municipality and business regulations.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start with the idea that truly excites you and gives your life meaning and a sense of accomplishment.
  2. Do a deep and vast research about your audiences, your competitors, and the feasibility of the project.
  3. Start your journey and never give up no matter what others say to discourage you or what barriers are in the way.
