Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Steven Garner, Founder of NEXCUE, located in Cincinnati, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

NEXCUE provides leadership and self-empowerment coaching cues to help business leaders achieve excellence in their personal and professional life. I teach them how to harness the power of their imagination to transform their self-image, perform at a high level and overcome challenges.

Tell us about yourself

My motivation to help professionals started after business and community leaders from various organizations helped me to transcend my difficult circumstances and achieve excellence. They helped me break the cycle of multi-generational poverty, establish myself as an accomplished professional and grow the business for one of the largest agencies in my city.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Transforming my personal pain into a stream of positive wisdom in many forms of virtual and physical content and onsite professional coaching, and consulting speaking is my biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding the right people who share my same vision and passion for serving people is my hardest thing. There are a lot of good people who are only interested in short-term financial transactions. I am interested in working with people who will help me build a legacy of success that yields financial gains as a by-product.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find and work with people who exhibit good character traits and value long-term relationships. Trust is the foundation of all professional and personal interactions. A person with a good character will prioritize adding value to the relationship and will work to earn your trust.
  2. Invest time, effort, and money in educating yourself on the latest technology, trends, and skills needed to succeed in an ever-changing world. You don’t have to be an expert in everything; you just need to understand enough to make informed decisions.
  3. Play for the infinite game, not the short-term wins. Short-term wins are good, but they don’t last. It can be very hard at times when things are not working out. But if you keep growing, you will succeed.
