A Growth Mindset Through Sports and Fitness - NH Sports

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fitness and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Steffi Henry, co-founder of NH Sports, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a mobile sports, fitness, and personal training brand. We serve families who are interested in living an active lifestyle. Our services range from sports and swimming classes for kids, baseball and basketball lessons for teens and young adults, and personal training for teens and adults!

Tell us about yourself

My husband was a collegiate athlete. It was challenging for us to find and pursue high-quality, personalized training throughout high school and college. So, in 2018, we started NH Sports to make genuine and customized coaching/training accessible to everyone.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In 2020, when the pandemic hit, our mobile, private and semi-private services boomed. It was a challenge to keep up with demand and still ensure we provided high-quality and customized services to every client. Not only did we succeed in keeping up with demand, but we also did it in a safe way and continued to make improvements daily to make sure our staff and clients were happy.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balance! When building your own business, there is always more to do. You could always improve your SEO, and you can update your website, rebrand marketing materials, etc. It is very easy to get carried away and work all hours of the night. It took us a long time to learn when it was time to step away from "work" for a bit. More is not always better!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be curious! No one knows your vision better than you do, so you'll need to learn the basics of all aspects of your business. Once you are involved in the various parts of the business, you'll be able to create systems and procedures that are efficient and effective. Then, you'll be ready to delegate.
  2. Create boundaries. Prioritize work-life balance. You cannot work on your business 24/7 and produce great results. Work less, but work productively and effectively.
  3. Surround yourself with a great group of supportive people. There will be tough days, and when they arise, you'll want someone to vent to, someone to remind you of why you are doing this!
