Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicole Duelli, Founder of Nicole Duelli Homeopathy, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is helping women, children, and families achieve optimum health with natural homeopathic medicines that work with the body's natural ability to heal itself alongside healthy habits. Homeopathy is an integrative medicine that can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine; however, the focus is on reducing symptoms by strengthening and supporting health overall rather than as a band-aid approach.

Tell us about yourself

I first learned about homeopathy while traveling in Europe through a recommendation for a stomach pain I'd suffered most of my life, and the result was so inspiring. I stayed in Europe and studied homeopathy and naturopathy to bring what I learned to Canada. We need more prescriptions that work with and support the body, and homeopathy is powerful enough that you can see results relatively quickly.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Because homeopathy is not very well known in Canada and natural medicine is often incorrectly regarded as ineffective, one of my greatest accomplishments is sharing my knowledge in articles and blogs and offering workshops to women and moms who then treat themselves and their families with home remedies that are natural, non-toxic and safe for the planet too. I really believe passionately in what I do.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest part of being a business owner is marketing and just getting the word out. I trained as a homeopath and naturopath - I just love helping people, and that's what I'm good at - so I find taking the time out to send newsletters and market homeopathy is an extra push, especially after a long day's work - even after 20+ years in business, I still find that part tiring. But now, at least, I recognize it's necessary to run a successful business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stick with it - don't give up easily just because it didn't work quickly or the first time.
  2. Avoid working 24/7. Schedule your work - and spend that time working on your business (avoid taking personal calls, etc.) and then take evenings (and weekends) off. Give yourself a holiday. You need to work hard, but you also need a break. Some of my best ideas happen after my holidays!
  3. Got an idea? Just do it - don't spend too much time thinking about it. I have spent days and weeks - even months on an idea that that didn't happen for years. Sometimes you just have to jump in and do it - and figure out the details later.
