Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Serena Alfaro, Founder of Nueva Luxe, located in Long Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nueva Luxe is a jewelry brand for independent people who enjoy making a statement. Our customers want something sustainable and unique!

Tell us about yourself

I started working on my business as an outlet for my creativity because I wanted a pair of earrings I wasn't about to find, so I figured out how to make them myself. From there, I began learning jewelry design and metalsmithing and eventually quit my full-time job to focus on my business. I love that I get to be a part of people treating themselves to something special or gifting to another person. My motivation is not only to bring beauty into the world but to be an example for other women to show them that they can control their destinies and outcomes. Through my entrepreneurial journey, I've been able to help others begin their own.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Leaving my role as an employee to work for myself was my most significant accomplishment as a business owner so far. It was a risk and has been more rewarding than I expected. Taking a risk led to many new opportunities for myself and my business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

My biggest challenge as a business owner is my work-life balance, mainly because I enjoy my work more than ever. Sometimes I have to remind myself to rest and unplug, but I'm getting better at it with practice!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
