What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is an Italian Restaurant based in Rockland County, NY. My customers are made up of the community members in and around Rockland County as well as those who come from out of state to dine with us.
Tell us about yourself
In the 1980s, Civil Unrest in El Salvador led me to the United States. I began my journey washing dishes at a restaurant but was able to work my way up to executive chef when most chefs were only from Italy. What motivates me is the unknown and the opportunities it brings. Who would expect a boy from El Salvador to become a chef in the United States and own his own business?
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a person is my family. My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is still to come, as I always want to challenge each opportunity that comes my way. I am extremely proud to say I own my own business, however, I do not want to become complacent and stop there.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things is time management, balancing personal life with business life.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The greatest tip is to be willing to put the work in. No one will challenge you to step forward every day, especially not when times get bad, so be that person who sees that goal that no one else sees.
