What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My business is successful (in my definition), steady work, loyal clients, etc. But what I consider to be my biggest accomplishment is the network I've been fortunate enough to be a part of, to help my own business and other business owners with similar or complementary goals and values.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, marketing is the challenge. I am uneducated in the art of getting the word out there. Social media is great but likes and follows do not always grow into clients.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

One, research, research, research! Do not go into business without a solid grasp of legal, financial, and market knowledge. You don't have to be Bezos, but you have to understand the less glamorous side of your business.

Two, have integrity and be true to yourself and your clients. Do what you say you will do. Take the hit if you are wrong, or simply drop the ball on something. Integrity will go a long, long way in building long-term relationships based on trust.

Three, deliver the goods 100% of the time. Give 100% of your attention to the clients. It doesn't matter if I am doing a private lesson with an elderly lady or training a military unit. I deliver the instruction with the same energy, level of detail, and thoroughness.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

In my opinion, owning your own business is the essence of the American dream. If you can make a living doing what you love, you win!
