Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Oxana Kirsanova, owner of The Yoga Bar, located in White Rock, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a yoga and fitness studio offering a different variety of classes. Just recently we added a private gym to our facilities. The goal is to have everything under one roof with one membership to maintain mental and physical health. Our clients are our family. We offer services to anyone, including youth. Our members are allowed to bring their kids for free to take classes.

We have people coming from many places as everyone wants to see what the best business in Canada looks and feels like.

Tell us about yourself

To have my own studio was always a dream of mine. I had beautiful and supportive people in my life who believed in me more than I believed in myself. The biggest reason was the passion I have for yoga to share that with the rest of the world. What motivates me is the service that our community needs. When you know your purpose and serve it, you are at the highest vibration. It’s rewarding and healing at the same time.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Eighteen months since we opened, we were voted the best yoga and Pilates studio locally. Also, we received the best business in Canada awards in 2021 and 2022.

We have built aerial yoga teacher training that is the most comprehensive training in the world. Our package has offerings that no other training in the world does. We train highly professional teachers to teach aerial yoga. Also, to build a team that is so humble and supportive that our students can feel that energy.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Hiring and training staff. Sacrificing time with the family.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Follow your passion.
  2. Have faith.
  3. Take baby steps for big goals.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Our studio stayed open during the fitness center closures. We refused to not to provide services to vaccinated students. We supported unity, and we strongly believed that anyone is worthy of doing yoga. We didn’t separate the community; instead, we built the community.
