Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pablo Nealon, Personal Chef, based in Norwalk, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a personal Chef offering memorable culinary experiences. I specialize in Argentine Asados (Argentine BBQ). I also offer formal dining experiences and family-style meals, nothing better than a big table with a great variety of food, surrounded by friends and family.

My customers are people who want to experience a restaurant-level dining experience in the comfort of their own homes. I have done events for families, groups of friends, corporate dinners, birthdays, etc.

Tell us about yourself

I am a former Architectural Designer who decided to follow his true passion 12 years ago and got into the culinary world. I worked in several restaurants in NYC, a 4 diamond resort in Colorado, etc. After many years of working in different kitchen environments, I decided it was time to go on my own, have the creative freedom that that brings and be able to create and provide people with unique culinary experiences.

Creating these special moments is what motivates me every day. People's reactions are very fulfilling things to witness.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Freedom to do what I love on my own terms.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

In my personal experience, I think marketing your business is the toughest part. You have to do a lot of work to put your business out there. It is a constant and never-ending process.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do it! Don't overthink it, or you will freeze.
  2. Be patient, and it will take some time for your business to start rolling.
  3. Talk, talk, talk. Tell people what you do, share your info, your social media, and your site. Word of mouth proved to be the best avenue for me to grow my business.
