Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christine Bullajian, CEO of Paleo Nut, located in Plano, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Paleo Nut, we make eating healthy easy! We have created the most delicious and wholesome baking mixes that the whole family will love. We were tired of trying so many baking mixes that claimed to be healthy but were filled with rice, potato, refined sugars, and corn starches and lacked any taste. All of our baking mixes are made with real food ingredients that you know and can pronounce! They are also grain-free, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, vegan-friendly, free of refined sugars, and most of all, seriously delicious!

Tell us about yourself

Our recipes came from a desire to feed our children a healthy diet that consisted of whole foods that would nourish their bodies, all while allowing them to eat the foods they enjoy. As a registered nurse and a graduate of the Academy of Culinary Nutrition, I feel like I have a different perspective regarding health and wellness. I truly believe that our bodies react and function as a direct impact of our diet. We want everyone to enjoy the foods they love without sacrificing their health.
After years of recipe experiments and MANY failures, we finally perfected the ideal ratios of wholesome, real food ingredients that we put into our baking mixes. At Paleo Nut, our promise is to provide clean, simple, delicious foods that will fuel your body so you can finally feel good about what you are eating!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To me, the hardest part about starting this business was the fact that I had NO experience doing anything like this. I am a pediatric nurse, so anything business-related was so foreign to me. I will say that I love a challenge. I love learning, so that was the fuel that kept me going. I think my biggest accomplishment was the day I decided to publish my products online. Within minutes, I was already receiving orders. That was a pretty great feeling and such a blessing!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You have to be willing to put in the work. I spent many days waking up at 4 am just to get stuff done before my kids woke up. I love what I do and could spend so much time working on my business, but I also don't want to burn out, so I think it's really important to create a good balance. My family comes first, so meeting their needs is my top priority!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a good group of people that are also starting or running a business. There are so many groups on social media, and it's super helpful to bounce ideas off each other.
  2. Read as many books and listen to as many podcasts as you can in the beginning. I learned so many things from business and start-up podcasts. There is a ton of free information out there if you are willing to take the time to find it and listen to it.
  3. Celebrate even the smallest victory! Sometimes it gets easy to focus on the end game and discount all the small wins. If the journey isn't fun, then it's not worth it!
