Authentic Macarons Delivered Fresh to Your Door - Pastreez

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anthony Rosemond, Founder and CEO of Pastreez, located in Phelan, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a French bakery where you can buy macarons online. It ships fresh in the entire US! We also sell crêpes and cookies. Our bakery is located in Phelan, CA. We also do pick-up locally, but the main business is through shipping nationwide.

Our customers use macarons as gifts, wedding & baby showers, and also as a curiosity for themselves. Since we do seasonal macaron flavors, there are new options weekly. That's how we came up with the macaron of the month club: A macaron subscription box! It's pretty popular, and people get seasonal macarons monthly for either 3, 6, or 12 months.

Tell us about yourself

My wife and I left everything in Paris, France, to build Pastreez in the United States. Back in 2017, we wanted to build a business together that matches both our skills: online marketing and baking. So we packed and left! Once in the US, we realized that there were no authentic macarons online. Pastreez was born. From there, we switched online and started to grow from day one.

Our motivation is to always innovate. The bakery industry is usually "old school." We love to modernize it, especially when it comes to seasonal macaron flavors, such as lavender crème brûlée or galaxy cheesecake! We also were the first ones to have the option to build your own macaron set online. This way, every order is custom to your favorite macaron flavors.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to be profitable after only four months in business was a big achievement. We really did it step by step, validating that there was a demand before building our business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

To keep up in a fast-changing environment. Things change very fast these days, after Covid, inflation, etc. Having a steady and stable business is the main challenge these days.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just do it. Stop thinking about it and go!
  2. Start small. Try your MVP (most viable product) on a small scale. Once you confirmed people are ready to buy and pay for your product, you have a business. At Pastreez, for example, we tested our macarons at local farmers markets. The idea was to make sure customers were ready to pay for it.
  3. Team up. You can't succeed alone. Having a reliable team will help you go through it all.
