What's your business, and who are your customers?
I specialize in creating family art for the walls. My customers are people who value a printed portrait as a record of life: it lasts longer than memory and is usually more accurate than one, and it helps to bind the generations of a family.
Tell us about yourself
I have always had a camera in my hand! After my second daughter was born, I was able to stay home with both of my girls and teach myself how to use my camera and run a business. I have learned everything the hard way and the expensive way, but I love it! I love showing people how beautiful they are, and I love helping families design family wall art for their homes. I love learning new things and implementing them in the business; sometimes, I fail, and sometimes I succeed! I'm so thankful that I get to do my dream job every day!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having my portrait business grow and succeed year after year, starting a nonprofit, and recently I launched my first online course!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Learning to stay in your own lane! Stay focused on my dreams and goals and not get discouraged because I can't do it faster. Not get caught up in the next shiny thing but follow through and finish what you started. There is so much; refocus on your goals!!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do something you love, and the money will follow.
- Invest in a mentor. They have done everything the long, hard, expensive way. Take that shortcut and learn from someone else.
- Make sure you stay true to yourself and who you are in all aspects of your business. You won't regret it!!
