Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mukimba Rahedi, Founder of Pink Amazon Therapy, located in Nairobi, Kenya.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I ran a mental health education, virtual therapy, and Tele counseling platform. Pink Amazon Therapy caters to young adults and adults who are ready to prioritize their mental health.

Tell us about yourself

Pink Amazon Therapy was born out of the need to educate people on mental health issues and to share my knowledge as a counselor to create mental health awareness, in 2020 it evolved into a virtual therapy and Tele counseling platform out of the need to continue offering counseling services even when the whole world was on lockdown.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I cannot pinpoint one high so far, but I do derive so much accomplished when I know someone who has utilized my services is making strides in changing their lives. The feedback from my clients is my fuel.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

When I started the practice, a lot of it was learning on the job. I have been fortunate to work with training programs organized by Women Work Kenya, Absa Kenya, and Unilever, which have been so great in scaling up the practice. It is a solo journey at the moment, so most of the processes are done alone, which can be a challenge on its own. As a service provider, I am the business, so when for one reason or another, I am indisposed, the business goes to a standstill.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start, start small, and start as you figure things out but if you have an idea, just get on with it.
  2. Keep professional and maintain integrity and excellence from the beginning.
  3. Enroll in training programs and workshops and keep learning as much as possible about business and entrepreneurship.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

A BONUS - please prioritize your mental health. Growth happens in phases, so take breaks and look after yourself. Most entrepreneurs are go-getters, it's great to keep ambitious, but it is well important to be fit enough to see your ambitions manifest.
