What's your business, and who are your customers?

My company is called Pivotn. Pivot is the intentional direction one would like to take, while the "n" is about the degree you want to take to. I am about helping people help themselves in engaging in a new direction. I do this by offering a variety of workshops and pivot coaching.

Tell us about yourself

Being in learning and development, I have learned in my 25 years that many organizations will eliminate this department when the company is not doing well. This is what happened to me the first time when I decided I would organize a company to provide consulting work until I found something more permanent. It was my most recent layoff that I decided I would go into business for myself, full-time. Focusing on one key point that happened, which was being laid off, and now, helping others figure out what is next. Additionally, I offer workshops and organizational development consulting for many organizations throughout the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is sustaining the business and growing it to a point where I am able to draw a productive living.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The constant hustle. You are either producing and presenting content, or you are developing a new business. As a natural introvert, I have had to learn how to sell my service and drive the "v" word of value.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, know what you are passionate about. Second, know how your passion resonates with your overall purpose, third, how you can leverage a combination of your passion and your purpose in engaging with your vocation.
