Events, Exposure, and Entertainment - power of threee

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in event planning but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vinelli Rumbaua, co-founder of power of threee, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run my business with my two older sisters, that have taught me everything, and we make dreams come true! We're all about putting your vision to life, curating the perfect blend of love + your Pinterest board. Our customers range from high school sweethearts to newfound love later in life.

Tell us about yourself

Being the youngest of 3 sisters, I had the privilege to constantly learn from the experiences my sisters would teach me. Sammie Jo, the oldest, was always a born natural leader who could command any room. Kimberly, the middle, was always the dreamer who could make anything possible with her creativity and heart of gold. Our single mom, who raised us, was a genuine hustler who provided for us in ways unexplainable. Inherently, I had acquired the best from each of them, which molded my passion for love, helping people, and getting things done. ;)

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm not sure if I would say this is my biggest accomplishment, but it is one that stands out the most. All my clients have found me through online presence or word of mouth. Referrals truly mean the world to me. And in September 2021, I was able to quit my full-time day job to pursue the entrepreneurial dream!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As an entrepreneur, there are definitely phases of wanting to do everything on your own, from social media, admin work, planning, day-of, advertising, rebranding, and so on, but there comes the point I need to let go of some duties and delegate.

I do end up being friends with a majority of my clients. We keep in touch, and I see their career/family grow, but another hard part is the battle between allowing clients to know personal struggles while keeping things professional. I want to be able to "keep it real," but there is a fear that if people truly know what's happening - the thought of losing business would occur?

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't compare yourself to anyone else in the same "niche" as you.
  2. Constantly learn (no matter how long you've been doing it).
  3. Start today.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Being an entrepreneur comes with a rollercoaster of emotions, good and bad days but mostly great ones! Always be willing to learn to be better. Be humble in your craft - be open to constructive criticism.

I do want to share that as chaotic as the wedding season has been since 2020 - on each wedding day, I am reminded of the honour I have to be part of my client's milestone. I am privy to moments that no one else will have, and in these very moments, like closing the doors and prepping the beautiful celebrant before walking down the aisle, I am grateful.
