What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Power Travel and we are a full-service, travel agency that focuses on family travel. We provide concierge-level service and plan fully customized and curated vacations for families looking to travel and have all of the details taken care of.

Tell us about yourself

I started Power Travel as I saw a need in the marketplace for a travel agency that specialized in family vacations. The needs of families with kids were often overlooked and I wanted to provide clients with experiences that they couldn't imagine on their own. My goal is to help families explore the world together and have it be as stress-free as possible.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Can I change this question to "What are most proud of as a business owner?" I am most proud to have weathered the Pandemic travel coaster. Through it all, I have been able to offer my clients a superior travel experience and been able to survive financially while many of my competitors have had to close their businesses.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The most challenging part of being a business owner is wearing so many hats. I started this business as I love planning vacations for clients but I am also a marketer, accountant, social media strategist, marriage counsellor, etc. It's challenging to do it all, but have found as the business has grown, it's been easier to outsource some of the tasks that take me away from my core competencies.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1) Never say "no" or "I can't" - when starting out, I am a firm believer in trying new ways of doing things as you never know what will work.

2) Always be honest. Integrity goes a long way and is what keeps clients loyal.

3) Do everything possible to be an expert in what you do - there is so much competition out there you really need to be a specialist to attract the right customers and stand out. You have to give clients a compelling reason to work with YOU.
