Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Xeba Zareie, founder of Preme, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Preme is a functional dessert with 10 grams of collagen protein and gentle prebiotics that are safe AND supportive for people suffering from gut illnesses like IBS, SIBO, and GERD - to name a few. The functional medicine doctor recommended Preme, and it appeals to people with and without gut illness. A lot of our customers simply want to feel good and have a healthy snack that they can enjoy early morning or late at night.

Tell us about yourself

Growing up, I spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals and doctors' offices. Health has always been at the forefront of my life. When I started to develop gut issues, I was forced to really restrict my diet. Even living in Los Angeles, it felt hard to find snack foods that tasted good and didn't have ingredients that would cause an inflammatory response. That's when I began dreaming about building Preme. Hearing how many people suffer from gut issues and witnessing how the functional properties of Preme actually support and improve their well-being really motivates me to keep growing the business, especially since most people don't have access to many other options.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment so far has been hearing stories from my customers with chronic gut issues about how Preme has improved their health and well-being. We have a health and food crisis in this country, and Preme is on a mission to support people who are often overlooked in the snack aisle and by their medical care providers.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is having to take risks in order to grow consistently. It's easy to give in to fears and procrastinate, so I have to face my fears every day to make sure I'm running Preme from a place of intuitive confidence.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get started! It's ok if things don't look or feel the way you want them to right away. Believe you'll get there, hold the vision and keep improving! True fans will follow you and your company as you evolve.
  2. Fight your fears. Your business can only thrive as much as you! Not every day has to be the spitting image of success, but as long as you're doing something every day that is moving the business forward, you'll get there.
  3. Great businesses are never built by one person alone. It takes a village, don't be afraid to ask for help.
