What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an online content creator who creates mainly for families (probably more specifically for moms, although I have a lot of dads as well) to help simplify home, pregnancy, and family life.
Tell us about yourself
I have been a nurse since 1997 and have 20 years of labor and delivery bedside nursing experience. I started a website in 2005, just a mom blog. Still, slowly it morphed as I added more household tips and soon pregnancy content with all my RN experience.
Now I have a second site called The Pregnancy Nurse, which is all helpful information for our pregnant friends. I also have three online courses that do well and a few smaller classes and products that make up most of my income.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating one of the top online prenatal classes on the internet.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Letting stuff go. My desk is in our dining room, so I can always go to work whenever I want. This has led to a lot of anxiety and difficulty letting things go. I'm working to create boundaries between the different areas of my life.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Listen to your gut. Taking classes on specific topics is fine, but often you know as much as the teacher (believe me).
- It's all about consistency... It's just showing up daily and making minor dents in the big picture.
- Networking-- making friends in your industry is PARAMOUNT to having people to support you and ask questions with (and be sure you keep them as well).
