Awake to the Beauty of Life - Purely Being

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lucy Love, Founder of Purely Being, located in Kelowna, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run an online platform and podcast called Purely Being, where I share weekly guided meditations to help those looking to recover their sense of innate worthiness, be in their true purpose, and live life awake to the beauty and miracles of daily existence.

My listeners and students come from all over the world (over 130 countries) and are from all walks of life. I love that we get to meet each other in the shared place of yearning for connection, joy, and meaning in life.

Tell us about yourself

I had a classical "dark night of the soul" during my late teens, which led me into a deep daily meditation practice as a way to find relief. This time of my life birthed an unquenchable desire to ease the suffering in the world and be a channel of love.

It's the fire and foundation behind everything I do and the motivation that keeps me stepping one foot in front of the other, even when things get tough or don't work out how I'd expected.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The messages I receive daily from my listeners sharing how I've transformed or blessed their lives in some positive way always bring a deep sense that my purpose has been fulfilled and that I could die happy at any time, knowing that I came here to do what I intended to do.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

When you're running a business on your own, there's a lot of freedom to do things your way. You get to work where and when you want, which is the best part! And... also the hardest part. I've found being consistently accountable to my vision and showing up every day no matter how I'm feeling harder than I thought it would be.

And, full disclosure, I do take the cheeky day off to play hookey! But at the end of the day, the success or failure of the business is 100% my responsibility. And that can feel heavy sometimes as I balance all the different hats of running a business while staying centered, healthy, and happy as a human being.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Great question! I'd have to say:
Make sure it's something that lights a fire in your belly when you think about it - something almost primal. It's fine if the desire is one to provide for yourself or your family, but I think having a larger vision for humanity & Earth that lights you up goes a long way and keeps you warm on the metaphorical "cold nights" that can come while you're figuring stuff out.
  2. Don't be afraid to throw paint on the canvas and be experimental with your work. The more you can embody the curious mindset of the scientist and the less you put your self-worth & welfare into each project - the more fun the whole journey will be! A "failed experiment" feels much lighter than a "failed project." And that lightness will help you bounce back more quickly into the next project with the gift of all the priceless data collected from your previous "experiments."
  3. Years before starting my business, I was at a conference and heard the words: "Don't think, create." (source: unknown), and something about this statement has stuck with me ever since. It's easy to get caught in analysis paralysis and overthink every move, but there's a certain magic that happens when you put your mind aside and let that inner creative impulse - the same one that's expanding the Universe itself - move and create through you. That's when my best work gets done and when I have the best time doing it! All of us have a connection to this inner resource, and tapping into it is simply a matter of slowing down and tuning in to that inner feeling of brightness and well-being. The mind loves to get in the way of all kinds of judgments and ideas about what you "should" do, but I find the heart always knows best - even in business!
