Incontinence At Home - Quick Change

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in adult care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ren Harris, Social Media Manager of Quick Change, located in Long Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

UI Medical (Urinary Incontinence Medical) is a leading innovator in the adult incontinence market. Our focus is to develop products that simultaneously empower patients and empower caregivers. Our products focus on solving pain points with simple, logical solutions at affordable prices. We are leading to better patient outcomes and better caregiver interactions. Our flagship product is the QuickChange Incontinence Wrap is an innovative alternative to traditional adult incontinence briefs, foley, and condom catheters.

The QuickChange incontinence wrap is a simple, elegant device that folds around a male’s penis (or genitalia as required) and quickly absorbs voided urine before it ever touches the skin, resulting in a dry patient and changing times of about a minute. The product design is safe, simple, and highly effective in assisting caregivers with the injury risk associated with the brief changing process. It also gives male patients more dignity in the changing process and better outcomes.

Tell us about yourself

The managing member of the business, J. Baum Harris, has been a successful entrepreneur prior to starting this business with associates.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Bringing to market the first adult male incontinence product focused exclusively on the needs of less ambulatory men. This was evidenced by the issuance of its own HCPPS  code, the US Department of HHS.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The sale of most health products B2B and B2C is indirect. Learning the industry and its potential pitfalls was far more complicated than anyone realized. It explains why so few cost-effective products are introduced in this sphere.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know the problem that your patient wishes to solve.
  2. Know the problem that the caregiver and family stakeholders hope to solve.
  3. Know how to solve 1 & 2 at a cost-effective price for the majority of people with the minimum number of moving parts.
