Building Better Worlds of Work - R. Brayton Bowen

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with R. Brayton Bowen, CEO of Building Better Worlds of Work, LLC., located in Louisville, KY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My name is Brayton Bowen, and I have a passion for building better worlds of work. I implement competencies of compassion that inspire employees, improve organizational performance, and increase profits up to 40 percent and more. My primary customers are HR professionals and business leaders willing to implement compassion strategies that drive success.

Tell us about yourself

I am a consultant, speaker, author, educator, and author of numerous works, including Recognizing and Rewarding Employees (McGraw-Hill) and Engaging the Heart for People, Performance, and Profit: Seven Competencies of Compassion@Work. I lead The Howland Group®, a strategy consulting and change management firm. I also am a Compassion Advocate and CEO for Building Better Worlds of Work, LLC, a consultancy committed to developing leaders and organizations for the new millennium.

What motivates me to do the work I do is to know that the world needs what I offer. Emile Durkheim describes the condition of our culture as in a state of anomy or tribalism. To avoid mediocre performance and even self-destruction, we need to implement constructive and compassion-driven countermeasures. I know how to do that, and customers have seen the results.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments are seeing the reactions of satisfied clients:

"...I have personally seen (Brayton) help drive improved results through culture change, teaching people to lead courageously and developing management talent. Brayton delivers on his support and respect for individuals within the organization." (Senior HR Executive, Macy's)

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Staying the course.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a vision.
  2. Develop a detailed business plan.
  3. Have sufficient reserves to stay the course for three years.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be passionate about what you do and devoted to the welfare of your clients.
