Tell us about yourself

My Name is Randy King, and I am life long martial artist, former bouncer, head of security, and close protection specialist. Who now focuses on proactive skills that help people avoid bad situations. The major event that got me down the path of self-protection was when traditional martial arts training failed me, and I almost lost my life to a man with a knife. It opened my eyes to all the bad information that was out there. My motivation is to make sure no one has to go through the things that I do. Every day I try and make as many people as I can a little bit safer.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say my biggest accomplishment is taking my method of self-protection training from a local gym in my home city and scaling the business up to the world marketplace. I have now spoken on stages in 10 countries and 65 cities.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would say one of the hardest things is Time management. As a person who travels a lot, trying to create a routine is very difficult. Plus, keeping yourself healthy when living on the road.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your why; it is the only thing that will keep you going.
  2. Know that, like a bow and arrow, sometimes the only way to shoot forward is first to go backward.
  3. You are not your client, and your level of passion and knowledge about your business is not a given. Not everyone will care as much as you do. Plus, know that the things you take for granted might be mind-blowing for someone new.
