Gain Career Clarity - Refactor Coaching

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brian Pulliam, Founder of Refactor Coaching, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help Eng + PM in tech gain career clarity to land their next role or promotion using a proven process based on 40 combined years of experience in tech + coaching.

Tell us about yourself

After 26 years in tech, I discovered that I am most fulfilled by helping others succeed that are excited and committed to their own goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being featured in a New York Times article.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The lack of predictability is certainly a challenge + the compensation is probably 80% less than my last tech job, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Three tips for new business owners:

  1. Don't "play business." Find where your customers are, work on your sales process, and deliver great results.
  2. Look for win-win scenarios. Example: Don't start a podcast just to get visibility at first, be a guest on other's podcasts.
  3. Remember your WHY: Some days or weeks (or months) will be difficult. What made you decide to pivot? Keep that reason close to your heart.
