What's your business, and who are your customers?
Our business is Millwork & Cabinetry. We provide interior finish carpentry work such as crown molding, wainscoting, door, and trim upgrades, as well as kitchen remodels. Our customers are typically looking to update their trim or cabinetry from the dated small golden oak to paint grade material that's larger and more defined.
Tell us about yourself
I am a 3rd generation carpenter; my Grandfather had his own remodeling business while I was growing up, and my Grandmother was an Interior Designer, so I was always inspired by that at a young age. Over the years, I had finally gained enough skill and knowledge to start my own business, and I haven't looked back since. To date, we have serviced 100s of customers over the years, and I love seeing the transformation and looks on their faces after we complete the project. It definitely keeps me coming back for more!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is being able to give back, not only to my employees but to the community. We offer higher than average wages with benefits to our staff along with a fun workplace environment with room for growth and self-improvement. We have also donated to our local animal shelters as well as sponsored many pizza lunches to local hospitals, police stations, fire stations, schools, and more over the last few years during this COVID Pandemic. I am fortunate enough currently to be in a position to also help other business owners as I have recently become a contractor business coach working with clients across the country.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Honestly, everything is "hard." It is all about how you approach each situation. I go into every situation with a help first mentality and always keep a positive outlook that will really help me make the "hard" tasks easier. Every day is "hard," but every day is also "easy." It's only difficult if you make it difficult, so my advice would be to just take one thing at a time and not to overwhelm yourself with the good and the bad. It will take discipline, but you can do anything you put your mind to.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Start at the end. Decide 1st and foremost what your end goal vision is. 2nd, reverse engineer that and put together an accountability chart to determine how many people you need in what positions to meet your financial goals. 3rd. DO THE WORK.
