Fitness, Nutrition, Mindset - Revolution Health

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jessica Jamison, Founder and Owner of Revolution Health, located in Charlton, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Revolution Health is a service-based business for those struggling with disordered eating and negative body image. Our unique approach combines fitness, nutrition, and mindset to help clients develop healthy habits and achieve lasting lifestyle changes one impactful step at a time. Revolution Health focuses on psychology and merges physical health and mental health to help chronic dieters finally discover food and fitness freedom. Our services include coaching, personal training, and a program that offers a combination.

Tell us about yourself

I discovered my passion for health and fitness in college while studying for my undergrad in Psychology at UConn. I loved hitting the gym with my college roommate and became fascinated by what I was learning in my nutrition classes. At the time, I was too afraid to leave behind my lifelong dream of becoming a therapist, so I continued to pursue that path by getting my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. However, my passion for fitness and nutrition never left my mind. After working in several counseling roles while studying to become a Certified Personal Trainer, I eventually decided to take a leap of faith and switch professions. The transition was relatively easy because our minds and body are so connected. I used my background in therapy every single day to help my clients achieve their fitness and weight loss goals through behavior change. Years later, I discovered that Health Coaching was the perfect way to support people in navigating their journey to wellness.

As a daughter, sister, wife, and Mom of 2, I understand the daily challenges families face when it comes to healthy living. Life is hard. Change is hard. However, I truly believe that balance is achievable, and I see it as my mission to help dieters find freedom because I myself struggled for too many years. Because of my own history of overexercising and disordered eating, I take a trauma-informed approach to coaching while strongly supporting self-care.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a very individualized experience for my clients. Despite being told what to sell and how to sell it numerous times, I chose to customize my programs based on everyone's unique needs. I do not offer one-size fits all, cookie-cutter group programs or online courses. I work together with clients to help them determine how to reach their specific health goals.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I had to learn so many new skills that I never expected because, as a small business owner, you have to do it all! Sales, marketing, accounting, plus actually providing quality services...it is a lot to juggle!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are doing what you love, not what you think you should do to make money.
  2. Invest in coaching for yourself because we all need support.
  3. Take care of your mental health, and never put self-care on the back burner.
