What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a professional speaker, trainer, and consultant. My customers are front-line administrative support professionals (admins, assistants, EAs, PAs, etc.).
Tell us about yourself
I am an admin in my soul. I have a unique way of looking for more efficient ways to do things, and I like to share them with others. I love lists, organization, and productivity. I want everyone to not only be good at what they do, but I also want them to feel valuable and valued. I combine the skills with internal motivation to ensure today's administrative professional knows the value they bring to the workplace.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Not only did I survive COVID, but I also thrived there. I have always offered workshops online, so the switch to online wasn't a challenge for me at all. My business had its best years ever because of my attitude and willingness to jump in with both feet.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balance. I love my job. Sitting down and responding to emails or writing an article doesn't bother me. I enjoy it. I have to force myself not to work when I have free time because otherwise, I would!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be willing to work really, really hard. It isn't easy for anyone.
- Realize that many will resent you, make passive-aggressive digs about your time off and travel, and expect you to pick up the bill at every event "because it is a business expense" (people have no idea how taxes work.
- Don't chase after bright shiny objects. Find your core purpose and be focused. There is no magic bullet so stop looking for something that will make your business an overnight success.
