Goldpan - Rick Brooks-Hill

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rick Brooks-Hill, Co-Founder of Goldpan, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We do Win-Loss and Churn Analysis for B2B technology companies that close at least 100 deals per quarter. We help our customers understand how to win more deals while retaining more of their clients.

Tell us about yourself

For the last 25 years, I have supported technology founders as their COO or CRO. Goldpan is my opportunity to share some of what I've learned from multiple early-stage startups through exits. It's incredibly satisfying to uncover nuggets that our customers get excited about. When they embrace and apply the lessons, especially lessons about why they win or lose, it's even more satisfying to see them prosper.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are one year into our business, and already - Goldpan is one of the most highly recommended offerings in our space. We have achieved this by delighting our customers.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Knowing when to step on the gas.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on delighting your customers.
  2. Talk to your customers often about what they like and what they'd like to see done differently.
  3. Never take a customer for granted. You always have to be over-delivering.
