Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lyndsey Murphy, Co-Owner of Rise Insurance Ohio, located in Columbus, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a central Ohio insurance agency raising the bar on service and on protection. We work with a wide range of companies to provide you with an easy way to protect the most valuable things in your life. We care about working with your schedule and your budget to find a protection plan that suits you best every single time.

Tell us about yourself

My co-owner, Jordan, and I grew up in the same small town (Mechanicsburg, Ohio) and reconnected at our 10-year high school reunion over the love of small business and helping people! By merging Jordan's passion for the insurance industry and my love of storytelling and technology, Rise Insurance was born in 2022. We both deeply care about helping people protect the things they care about and being there for them on some of their hardest days.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment so far in our short history is making a business that works both for us as business owners (so we can have lives too) and still being there for our customers. It's a fine line, but we're learning to walk it every day and setting important boundaries.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding a balance between focusing on the small things that need to get done each day and dreaming out the big dreams that can keep us growing, changing, and helping more people.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It will never be perfect, the time will never be completely right, and it won't ever feel comfortable. Start anyway.
  2. Always try to provide value in your interactions, don't just ask for things. How can you help them at the same time they are helping you?
  3. Early on, make sure you make good relationships with someone who can help you do your taxes, find the right insurance, payroll, suppliers, etc. - whatever your business needs and keep them happy! These small things are often overlooked but can become big headaches.

Where can people find you and your business?
