Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicole Booker, Owner of Rogue Reiki & Wellness Center LLC., located in Rogue River, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a reiki and wellness center created to provide a sacred space for people to come and heal. Reiki came into my life when I was facing many health challenges, and through this modality and other holistic approaches, I was able to eliminate many conditions and get control over my own health and well-being.

I have always had a passion and drive to help others. My dream was to provide a wellness center that offered different modalities and treatments specifically formulated for the individual and where they are in their life now. The customers that come to me range in age, gender, and lifestyle; many are looking to reduce their stress and learn tools to take home to help them facilitate healing even between visits.

Tell us about yourself

I started working on my business after the pandemic because I could see that my community and the people needed a safe place to go and begin their healing. When I say healing, everybody was affected in their own unique way by the pandemic, and as we were in isolation, people were faced with meeting themselves alone and diving into many parts of their life and challenges. I think that's in my opinion as a whole; we all want to have control of our health and well-being.

I would like to have a more natural practice. I have been disabled and on permanent disability for 12 years, and it wasn't until lockdown that I made a promise to myself that if I were to make it through the pandemic and be able to maintain my disability, I would begin a company where people could go and learn about natural medicine Reiki and the power of their own bodies.

A few things motivate me every day; the first thing that motivates me is my family. My oldest son has Asperger's, and life is difficult for him, and he sees that life is difficult for his mom as she faces challenges with her health. I wanted to make sure he sees and knows that he should never give up and never get bitter about where he is in his life path.

I am motivated by showing my boys that in life, you can overcome obstacles in your way and come out of unpleasant experiences with gratitude and understanding. I am motivated by my current clients as well as the motivation to get the gift to bring people into healing and well-being. I am motivated every day to know that I am going to help somebody in some way, even if small better or enhance their life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would have to say my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is helping my clients achieve their goals. As they walk into their next session, I see the progressive changes being made in their lives. Part of that is because of my business and what Rogue Reiki & Wellness Center provides for them. I am proud that I am able to offer not only in-person guidance but also have created an environment where I am able to help people not even locally by telemedicine or distant treatments.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is work-life balance. The ability to know when to stop working and give myself the time for home life is a tricky thing. As a business owner, the work never stops, so you need to know when to stop and call it a day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never give up on your dreams and aspirations. It is going to be hard, and you're going to have to sacrifice and do hard work. You are stronger than you think and more than capable of achieving your dreams.
  2. Make sure to read up and learn about the different types of business structures like LLC versus sole proprietor. I know that there are different people that can help with those parts of formulating a company, and I also feel it is important to have active knowledge of every part of the runnings of your business. Staying up to date with the administration parts of your business is as important, if not more so, as the business itself.
  3. Give yourself grace in the entire process. Take the opportunity in all of the processes of starting, running, and growing your business to get to know yourself and have fun with it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I'm thankful for this opportunity that allows me to share my story, even in a small snapshot. My passion for humanity and unconditional well-being and love drives me every day to want to help spread unconditional acceptance and love to the world. I am humbled by this opportunity to make my dreams a reality, and I wish everyone the same opportunity.
