The Ron Van Dam Show - New England Broadcasting

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ron Van Dam, Owner of New England Broadcasting, located in North Easton, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a podcast/media company based on my 35 years of radio broadcasting as a talk show host. It is a comedy commentary daily program.

Tell us about yourself

I had always been fascinated with radio broadcasting. As a child, I stuttered. A speech therapist worked with me when I was a teenager, and the condition went away. Little did I know my career would end up as a broadcaster. I am motivated by the ability to share humor with others on a regular basis. Each day brings a new topic to be sarcastically examined.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is mastering creativity. It drives you to think differently and to keep things fresh. That promotes growth. I perform my business as if I am entertaining just two people, which is always myself plus one complete stranger.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is how you are ultimately responsible for your own success, but that is also the easiest if you just know how to listen, and it's also the most rewarding.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top tips are: Whatever you do, find a way to do it differently, don't make snap decisions unless you decide by experience, brush your teeth before bedtime, don't look in the mirror; it will always depress you, and let somebody else milk the cow.
