Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ronak Bhatt, a software engineer based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a Full Stack software engineer with solid experience with Ruby on Rails and Javascript Frameworks. I've worked in applications in several business areas and with several technologies. I worked for several companies in the UK, Europe, USA, India, etc., and I build websites and phone applications.

Tell us about yourself

I've worked in software engineering for my entire 6-year career. My commitment to critical thinking and attention to detail has gotten me to where I am today: a senior software engineer for First Technology. I have a passion for processes and am an experienced team leader who typically manages 10 developers at any given time. Prior to my senior role, I worked as a software engineer for First Technology and a programmer for Mobile First. Because I've already held all the other positions in this field, I have keen insight into what it takes to run a successful project. My career goal is to move into management as a CTO, and I know this role would help me hone my leadership skills.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My team achieved our goal of building websites/ mobile apps. My part of the project was managing clients, syncing up daily with them, and giving reports. Also, sometimes, I needed to code. While this project wasn't revolutionary. Providing accurate service to our client is my main moto.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There are a few:

  1. Learning to say no.
  2. Managing technology priorities.
  3. Getting the right support staff.
  4. Maintaining authenticity.
  5. Keeping projects in the pipeline.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get Organized.
To achieve business success, you need to be organized. It will help you complete tasks and stay on top of things to be done. A good way to be organized is to create a daily to-do list. As you complete each item, check it off your list. This will ensure that you're not forgetting anything and completing all the tasks that are essential to the survival of your business.
  2. Analyze Your Competition.
Competition breeds the best results. To be successful, you can't be afraid to study and learn from your competitors. After all, they may be doing something right that you can implement in your business to make more money.
  3. Stay Focused.
The old saying "Rome wasn't built in a day" applies here. Just because you open a business doesn't mean you will start making money immediately. It takes time to let people know who you are, so stay focused on achieving your short-term goals.
