Tell us about yourself

I've been working in the pay equity space for the past four years and got into it after one particularly bad negotiation. The feeling of getting off the negotiation call and feeling embarrassed and ashamed for asking for more money and scared that the offer would be rescinded made me wonder if there was a better way. I started reading books on negotiating and trying to support my friends and family -- and eventually started coaching more formally!

I've personally learned and grown so much through this work - not just about how to negotiate but also about myself - I think that's what keeps me motivated to keep at it!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We recently helped our 1000th client negotiate an increase in pay. That was an amazing feeling!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think the hardest part is always knowing there's more that can be done! It can be hard to take a break.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't overthink things. Get started sooner than you think you're ready to.
  2. In the earliest days, you are your business - so taking care of yourself (particularly your mental health) will actually help you succeed professionally. This one took me a while to learn.
  3. Ask for help.
