Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marnie Madras, Founder and CEO of Rumbly, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Rumbly is the premium pregnancy subscription service showing up for the woman you are and the mom you're becoming. It has a modern vibe, a cheeky, aspirational, and inspiring personality, and beautifully designed products. Rumbly is the affordable luxury that every mom deserves. Whether first-time mom or second or fourth, rumbly helps women strengthen their identity and reduce loneliness. It acknowledges and celebrates the whole experience, and it's a grounding force in times of change. It's also an attitude and a mindset shift. It's a way to recognize all the amazing changes going on with the mom-to-be (both physically and emotionally) and what she may need during each phase of the journey. Rumbly is bridging that gap and supporting moms-to-be in a way that no other brand has yet. A Rumbly Mom is a strong, complicated, and complete individual who is also a mom.

Tell us about yourself

Hiiii! I'm Marnie, founder, and CEO of Rumbly. It all started when I realized that our pregnancy experiences needed to change. During each of my four pregnancies, I noticed that women are not the priority. People asked, "How's it going?" but really meant, "How's the baby?". At every doctor appointment, I went to check in on the health and development of my baby, but they never checked in on me. I felt like nothing more than a vessel, despite being so excited about this incredible time in my life.

It turns out that I was not the only one that felt this way. Speaking with other women, we shared stories of people seeing only our bumps and feeling invisible behind them. Being cast aside that way, it's really no wonder that mental health concerns for new moms are on the rise. I didn't like that feeling, and I knew I had to do something to help give other women a different pregnancy experience. With previous entrepreneurial work in hospitality, food, and drink, and product development, delivering unmatched brand and product experiences that are catered directly to women is embedded in my DNA. And so it all came together quite legendary. I started rumbly as a mission to give women a better pregnancy experience. To help women prioritize themselves in pregnancy while further tapping into the excitement of the journey. I want to be part of a change in how we understand the journey to motherhood. I want to help women navigate all the changes and better prepare themselves for postpartum life.

Motivation? Women. Women are remarkable, and pregnancy is magical. While motherhood is an exciting and overwhelming new adventure, even the most self-assured woman might feel a little lost along the way. That's where rumbly steps in. To act as her external compass and help her better prioritize herself on this wild, crazy, and amazing journey. Women spend all their time and energy (and money) on babies but often leave themselves out of the equation. So we've got her when she doesn't always have herself. Being a mother and starting rumbly have equally brought me the highest levels of joy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing the impact, I have made in women's lives across borders and from different backgrounds. Women I have no prior connection to. Rumbly is working its butt off to change the narrative when it comes to how women are treated in pregnancy - and, importantly, how they treat themselves. Bringing more joy to a woman's motherhood journey is certainly THE biggest accomplishment I have to date. I only hope to spread more of that in 2023 and beyond.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Taking risks and trusting your own gut in that process. To be successful, I truly think you need to take some bold risks that are going to make you feel completely unsteady. But as we all know, those risks come with great rewards, whether it's a win or a learning experience at the end of the day. Also, as a solopreneur, all the decision-making falls on you at the end of the day. It's a discomfort you have to learn to get used to and thrive on.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust your gut.
  2. Continue to come back to what brings you joy in your business. Every day.
  3. Continue to build a network of people that inspire you and can help you get to that next step. No matter what industry they are in. There is always the next step, and you should never go at it completely alone.
