Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Steve Griffith, Founder & President of Sales Builders Texas, LLC, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sales Builders Texas offers Fractional Sales Leader and Sales Consultant services to small and mid-size B2B businesses. Whether the business is a startup, looking for growth, or planning to exit, I design and implement the sales infrastructure that will maximize growth and value.

Tell us about yourself

I spent over 30 years in sales as a salesperson, sales leader, and business executive with companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500. I built over 20 sales organizations during this time, some from the ground up and others I had to rebuild or fix. I learned how to effectively assess the organization, identify issues and solutions, and implement the necessary changes to create a growth engine. I enjoy most helping other people reach their goals and beyond, and that was the best part. I have taken this skill and combined it with the licensed frameworks of Sales Xceleration; I now work with multiple businesses to design and implement the sales infrastructure to deliver accelerated growth for them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, the first step is the hardest - going out on your own. If I didn't have some strong mentors and coaches to advise me, it would be much harder. That first step is a huge accomplishment, and once you validate your choice with an initial customer engagement that is successful, that validation is a tremendous feeling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part of being a business owner is knowing when to get help. Understanding your limits and managing your own time are critical. You have to be ready to hire someone to help you do things you don't do well. Time is critical, so you could learn how but the better choice is to get help.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Surround yourself with help - coaches, outsourced services, and mentors.
  2. Be ready to work hard - it takes time, lots of it, to get started.
  3. Lead with a servant's heart - give people more than you expect in return.
