Ocean-inspired Line of Handmade Jewelry - Sand Kissed Jewelry

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sandy Frasz, Owner of Sand Kissed Jewelry, located in Hollywood, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I create handmade ocean-inspired jewelry using seashells, sea glass, pearls, semi-precious stones, and recycled glass at Sand Kissed Jewelry on Etsy and my website. My customers are active women who expect comfortable everyday jewelry that they can wear in the surf or town.

Tell us about yourself

I have always lived near the ocean. I grew up on the Space Coast of Florida and eventually married a Navy Officer. We spent 15 years in Hawaii, where I would spend hours diving in the surf for seashells and sea glass, mostly on the North and West shores of Oahu. I made jewelry with my beach treasures, then opened Sand Kissed Jewelry in 2015. Now we live in Southern Maryland, and I still beach comb on my travels along the East Coast, especially in my beloved home state of Florida, hoping to find that perfect shell.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Repeat customers! It is very important to me that my customers are happy. It is very gratifying to get those five stars and have customers who feel confident enough to buy from you over and over.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the most difficult things about being a creative solopreneur for me is time management. I am currently practicing time blocking so that I set aside time for specific tasks like order fulfillment, checking emails, marketing, etc.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be clear on your "why." Clearly defining why you want to have a business will be the foundation upon which to set your goals.
  2. Marketing is very time-consuming and overwhelming at first. Pick one social media platform and consistently post, on a regular interval, content relevant to your business.
  3. Find a "biz bestie." My biz bestie also has a product-based business, and we Zoom once a week to pick each other's brains and keep each other on task.
